Home Security Tips
With the rapid development of the economy, people’s living standards have significantly improved, and the home environment has improved, making burglary a common means for some thieves. Here are some home security tips for preventing theft.
1 Home security tips for apartments
(1) No guardrails, easy access to the balcony
Ms. Zhang’s family used to live on the top floor, and there was no anti-theft measures installed on the balcony. Due to the hot and humid summer weather, the windows are always open at night. One day, Ms. Zhang woke up in the morning to find that the things she had left on her balcony were nowhere to be found. It was then that she realized that a thief had taken advantage of the darkness to visit her balcony. Thanks to closing the door from the balcony to the interior, otherwise the thief would have entered and committed theft.
Tips:
- Residents living on the top floor must install anti-theft facilities, as the top floor is a target of some thieves.
- Some thieves have strong professionalism and can steal indoors through small windows in the hallway or by using ropes to descend to the top floor from the rooftop. And there are fewer residents coming and going on the top floor, so some thieves may pry open the door lock to commit theft. Therefore, it is necessary to install anti-theft doors and locks to avoid giving thieves an opportunity.
(2) Stealing keys, stealing friend’s computer
Mr. Chen and Mr. Liu are good friends, and they stay at Mr. Chen’s apartment whenever they have nothing to do. One day, Mr. Chen asked Mr. Liu to go downstairs to buy groceries and when he came back with the key, he opened the door himself. When Mr. Liu was buying groceries with Mr. Chen’s key, he secretly matched a key. A few days later, when Mr. Chen went to work, Mr. Liu opened the door of Mr. Chen’s apartment and found a computer collector who claimed it was his own computer. He sold the computer that Mr. Chen had just bought.
Tips:
- Do not easily give your key others.
- If guests come to the apartment, do not place valuable items in obvious places, be sure to hide them in an invisible place, or do not store valuable items at home to avoid giving opportunities to those who want to steal your items.
(3) Cut the screen of the window and enter to steal the camera
Mr. Ma placed the camera on the table. When he woke up, he found that his camera was missing. Upon further inspection, he discovered that a long cut had been made on the screen window of the balcony. The police found that Mr. Ma’s apartment was on the second floor, and there was no protective fence installed on the balcony. Only a screen window was installed, which was close to the outside canopy. The thief easily climbed onto Mr. Ma’s balcony through the canopy and then cut off the screen of the window to carry out the burglary.
Tips:
- The first floor is usually equipped with a protective fence, and the balcony on the second floor is close to the canopy. Thieves can easily climb to the second floor through the first floor protective fence or canopy. So, protective measures must be installed on the second floor.
- Do not keep valuable items indoors too close to windows, or place clothes on windowsills to prevent thieves from picking up clothes or valuable items through poles and causing damage to the owner.
2 Home security tips for houses
Ms. Zhang’s house is usually empty and the front door is locked, but the door to her living room is rarely locked. One day, Ms. Zhang went out to buy groceries and returned in just a few minutes, only locking the door. After about 10 minutes, she came back and found that the door was still tightly locked, and the room had been rummaged through by someone. The money she had put in the cabinet was missing. She learned from her neighbor that someone knocked on her door. When the neighbor came out, the neighbor saw three or four young boys who had kicked a ball into the yard and wanted to pick it up. The boys asked if anyone was there.
The police learned that there is often a group of young boys playing football, all around the age of 16. The police brought back the older one for questioning, and the big boy quickly confessed the truth. The truth was they kicked the ball into residents’ yards under the guise of playing ball, in order to test if anyone was at home. After kicking in, they knock on the door. If anyone is at home, they kick the ball into the yard and ask to pick it up. The owner will not suspect. If no one opens the door, it means there is no one at home. They jump into the yard through the big wall and then commit theft.
Tips:
- Residents should strengthen their awareness of anti-theft and theft prevention. It is convenient for thieves to steal and for people to enter and exit. As long as there is no one in the house, the doors inside and outside the yard should be tightly locked, even for a few minutes.
- At night, when sleeping in a house with doors and windows tightly closed and no one living there for a long time, valuable items must not be stored.
- Install the monitoring system and burglar alarm system.
3 Home security technical methods
The home security system is an important facility for preventing accidents such as theft, robbery, and fires. Once an emergency occurs, the owner can be quickly notified by phone, making it easier to take emergency measures and prevent accidents or disasters from spreading.
The home security system utilizes an alarm control panel to connect various detectors wirelessly or wired, achieving burglar alarm function. The panel is connected to a landline. In case of an alarm, dial the phone number or mobile number set by the customer to sound the alarm.
Our current burglar alarm measures mostly rely on civil defense and physical defense (such as anti-theft doors, iron guardrails, etc.). If conditions permit, adopting technical prevention measures will achieve twice the result with half the effort.
(1) Install infrared burglar alarm system.
When this alarm system is in operation, it can emit infrared light that is invisible to the naked eye. As soon as a person enters the light control range, the device will immediately sound an alarm. If a thief enters, residents can immediately detect it, but the thief himself is unaware and often catches him without warning.
(2) Install electromagnetic password lock.
To install this lock, you need to press the password first when unlocking from the outside, otherwise it cannot be unlocked. If the lock is pried, the locking alarm device will emit an alarm sound. This will alert people or neighbors indoors, which can scare away thieves and capture them.
(3) Actively cooperate and actively participate in the urban community network alarm system.
After installing the burglar alarm system, if the user encounters a dangerous situation (such as burglary), the alarm will automatically sound through the pre-set defense zone. The security station’s alarm center will immediately display the user’s exact address, and the security can quickly respond to the scene and catch the perpetrator.
