Basic Concepts of Electric Fence

1 Introduction

Electric fence is currently the most advanced perimeter burglar alarm system. The electric fence system mainly consists of two parts: the electric fence host and the front-end accessories. Usually, the electric fence host is installed outdoors along the existing fence (such as brick walls, cement walls, or iron fences), and the alarm signal is transmitted to the backend control center through signal transmission equipment.

The electric fence host generates and receives high-voltage pulse signals, and can generate alarm signals when the front end detects that the fence is in contact, short circuited, or disconnected state, and send alarm signals to the security alarm center. The front-end detection fence is a tangible perimeter composed of components such as poles and metal wires. Multi-level network alarm can be achieved by controlling the keypad or alarm software.

Electric fence is an active intrusion prevention fence which counterattacks intrusion attempts, repelling intruders, delaying intrusion time, and not threatening human life. It also sends alarm signals to security alarm center to ensure that management personnel can timely understand the situation in the alarm area and make quick decisions.

2 Function

(1) Deterrence function: Warning signs are hung on the metal wires of the electric fence, which creates psychological pressure upon seeing them, and there is a feeling of electric shock when touching the fence, which is enough to deter intruders.

(2) Blocking function: The electric fence itself is a tangible barrier, and when installed at an appropriate height and angle, it is difficult to climb over.

(3) Alarm function: If the electric fence is forcibly breached, the electric fence host will send an alarm signal to the alarm control panel.

3 Main features

(1) High voltage pulse electric fences with complete and clear boundaries and electrostatic induction fences have strong blocking and deterrent effects.

(2) Intelligent alarm function with extremely low false alarm rate.

(3) Equipped with alarm interfaces, it can be linked with other security systems to improve the security level of the electric fence system.

(4) Electric fences have the significant feature of “defense as the main focus, alarm as a supplement”.

4 Composition

(1) Fence

The fence part of the electric fence is mainly composed of insulators, brackets, alloy wires, related leads, etc. The electric fence used in residential areas is mainly to prevent people from illegally crossing the perimeter and to promptly report any alarm incidents. While ensuring the safety of the community, more emphasis is placed on the safety and aesthetics of the fence, and it should be coordinated with the entire community environment.

(2) Pulse detector

Pulse detector is a device used to generate and regulate high-voltage pulses, detect pulse signals, set communication addresses, and related parameters.

Pulse detectors can generate high-voltage pulses, which have a pulse impact on intruders, providing a sense of deterrence and effectively deterring intruders without causing physical harm. The pulse electric fence host can generate low-voltage pulses, which do not have the ability to strike. The pulse detector generates an alarm by detecting the voltage and current of the pulse signal on the fence. It has a chip with certain data processing capabilities and can set an address code for the entire alarm system to recognize and access. It can also set technical parameters such as the voltage and alarm delay for generating the pulse signal.

(3) Alarm software

The alarm software for electric fences can not only display alarm zone information, but also remotely control pulse detectors to display and set various parameters. The database attached to the software can store various detailed alarm information records and has different access and usage permissions according to different management levels. The alarm software can be integrated into larger software system platforms and can be connected to local area networks for management.

5 Application

Electric fences are mainly used for security and prevention in power system, finance system, residential areas, warehouses, military departments, schools, prisons, factories, government agencies, etc.

(1) Power system

The power system, as a fundamental safeguard measure of the country, is the most basic construction of the country and an essential and important component. The application of pulse electric fence system in this enterprise can effectively solve the inconvenience caused to the security work of the enterprise due to the scattered infrastructure and remote areas. Due to their dispersed location and limited personnel, substations are difficult to deter intruders. Using pulse electric fences to increase the height of the structured fence, and using the high voltage generated by the fence to directly deter intruders and prevent illegal personnel from entering, forming the first layer of protection for the substation.

(2) Financial system

The financial system is a critical sector that requires security measures that alternate day and night. The rate of external intrusion is quite high, mainly involving the theft of currency and securities. Professional skills are required for civil defense and technical defense. And demand to strike down the invaders. For example: banknote printing plants (production), bank vaults (storage), bank business premises (trading premises).

(3) Residential area

As a private space for residents, the community requires strict security measures. The invasion location is difficult to determine. Using barriers such as walls and fences for closed protection cannot effectively prevent intrusion which causes varying degrees of threat and loss to personal and property.

(4) Warehouse

Warehousing is mostly for valuable items, and theft is frequent, for example, military ammunition depots, national storage items, logistics warehouses, mining civilian explosive storage depots, etc. Theft often occurs, especially in civilian explosive storage warehouses, and theft can have significant consequences.

(5) Military department

The military department is mostly a national confidential unit, and it is even more necessary to improve protective measures.
